Neoplasms of the glandular stomach in mice irradiated with x-rays or fast neutrons.

چکیده
The incidence of gastric adenocarcinoma in animals is extremely low (13,14), and attempts to produce such tumors with various carcinogenic agents (11), including ionizing radiations (8), have been only moderately successful, at best. The present report deals with a number of malignant and premalignant lesions of the glandu lar stomach of the mouse occurring after wholebody irradiation with x-rays or fast neutrons. The findings suggest that these two types of radiation may act by different biological mecha nisms to produce gastric neoplasms.

Trabecular bone changes induced by fast neutrons versus gamma rays in mice
Background: The trabecular bone changes in the tibia of C3H/HeN mice were measured 12 weeks after whole body irradiation with various doses of fast neutrons (0-2.4 Gy) or 137Cs-generated gamma-rays (0-6 Gy). Materials and Methods: Serum calcium, phosphorus, estradiol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. Tibiae were anal...
متن کاملSperm DNA damage in mice irradiated with various doses of X-rays alone or in combination with actinomycin D or bleomycin sulfate: an in vivo study
Background: DNA damage in male germ cells due to exposure to environmental and manmade physico-chemical genotoxic agents is considered as the main cause of male infertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of combined modalities (radiotherapy and chemotherapy) routinely used for cancer treatment on mouse sperm chromatin in vivo. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight mice were div...
متن کاملEffect of cimetidine and famotidine on survival of lethally gamma irradiated mice
Background: Currently available radioprotectors are poorly tolerated in man and the general use of aminothiols is compromised by their side effects. This study was carried out to test and compare the radioprotective potential of cimetidine and famotidine against lethally gamma irradiated NMRI mice. Materials and Methods: Adult male NMRI mice in groups of 10 were exposed to various doses of gamm...
متن کاملEffect of vitamin E on preovulatory stage irradiated female mouse expressed as chromosomal abnormalities in generated embryos
Background: The present study has been carried out to investigate the effects of preovulatory stage gamma-irradiation of female mice in the absence or presence of vitamin E on numerical chromosome abnormalities in 8-cell embryos after mating with non-irradiated males. Materials and Methods: The 8-11 weeks adult female NMRI mice were whole body irradiated at preovulatory stage (post PMSG inject...
متن کاملElevated mutation rates in the germ line of first- and second-generation offspring of irradiated male mice.
Mutation rates at two expanded simple tandem repeat loci were studied in the germ line of first- and second-generation offspring of inbred male CBA/H, C57BL/6, and BALB/c mice exposed to either high linear energy transfer fission neutrons or low linear energy transfer x-rays. Paternal CBA/H exposure to either x-rays or fission neutrons resulted in increased mutation rates in the germ line of tw...
